Holding Attention

This project began during a time when everything felt like too much at once.

There was more information, emotion, and noise than I could meaningfully process, in life, and in my art. So I deliberately narrowed my field of view by cutting a circle into a piece of paper and looking through that at the 50+ monoprints laid out in front of me.

That limitation changed the way I looked. Instead of trying to absorb everything, I could focus on one thing at a time. It became a way to stay attentive, engaged, and grounded. I could feel things through the details.

This project explores the relationship between attention and perception. The mind can’t hold everything equally. I noticed that looking closely at one small piece can sometimes help me see more.
