Teach for America

Recently I embarked on a project for Teach for America to help illustrate some of the concepts that they embody. I’ll be travelling to a number of places that their teachers work to document the regions, schools, classrooms, teachers, and students. Fun stuff!

These shots are from the Edwards Middle School in Charlestown, MA, and Blackstone Valley Prep in Rhode Island.

Nancy and Marcos, Married.

Nancy and Marcos got married in a large Catholic church in East Boston, their home. It was great to see such a tight community. Half of the people that happened to be walking down the sidewalk knew them! We had the chance to get some shots on the water, with a view of the Boston skyline. Freeeeeezing cold, but beautiful.

Here is one to start, of Marcos with his two brothers:

SOS–Somerville Open Studios

I have a great posse of photographer friends, and this year we decided to show at Somerville Open Studios. We had spaces in The Armory (see photos below), a quite active center for the arts in Somerville. I enjoyed talking photography with people all weekend, and I met some very interesting artists and photographers. We’ll definitely do it again!

United Way Community Baby Shower

This was an amazing experience. The United Way put on a baby shower in Roxbury for 50+ families, complete with shower games, presents, dinner, classes, and…family/maternity portraits. It was a great event, complete with excited, expectant moms, dads, and siblings. I feel very lucky to have been a part of it. Thanks to my photographer friend, Danita Jo, for inviting me to be there.
